About DiBlasi Associates

The origin of the consulting structural engineering firm of DiBlasi Associates, P.C., dates back to 1984 when Clarence DiBlasi launched his structural engineering practice.  Prior to this time, Mr. DiBlasi was an associate in a major Connecticut architectural / engineering firm.  In his 29 years with that firm as a Senior Structural Engineer and a Project Manager, Mr. DiBlasi actively participated in the design and administration of numerous complex projects of various types.  In the fall of 1990, Thomas DiBlasi joined the firm, bringing with him over five years of "hands-on" experience in the design of intricate institutional and commercial facilities.

Since its inception in 1984, the firm has completed the design of an array of projects:  office buildings, private and public schools, libraries, museums, churches, residence halls, parking structures, apartment buildings, athletic facilities, municipal buildings, medical facilities, industrial buildings, retail facilities, military facilities, cogeneration power plants, commercial buildings and custom single-family residences.  The firm has employed structural systems using a wide range of materials including structural steel, reinforced concrete, precast/prestressed concrete, sawn lumber, glued laminated timber, concrete masonry, cold-formed steel, and aluminum.  The firm has also participated in the evaluation and rehabilitation of existing structures, and it has employed state-of-the-art repair techniques including the use of carbon-fiber reinforcing.

The firm has acted as an Independent Structural Engineering Consultant in order to review proposed structures which exceed the "threshold limit" as defined by the Connecticut General Statutes.  The firm also administers Special Inspections programs in accordance with the requirements of the Building Code.  This extensive and diverse experience has also provided the firm with the background necessary to provide effective Expert Witness services.

DiBlasi Associates’ diversified client base includes architects, building owners, developers, general contractors, specialty subcontractors, engineers, private schools and universities, building officials, attorneys, government agencies, municipalities and industrial clients.

The experience of the staff is further enhanced by the firm's computer network.  An extensive engineering software library enables the staff to analyze and design virtually any size and type of structure.  Included in this library are such powerful programs as RAM Advanse (analysis and design), RAM Structural System (composite and non-composite steel floor and roof system design and lateral force-resisting system analysis and design), PCA Slab (design of concrete slab systems) and PCA Column (concrete column analysis/design).  The firm also writes many of its own custom spreadsheet-based engineering programs using Microsoft Excel.  100% of the drafting is performed using AutoCAD Architectural Desktop.

In order to stay abreast of the latest trends in structural engineering, DiBlasi Associates maintains a strong commitment to continuing education.  Members of the staff regularly attend professional seminars, and the firm leadership adheres to the minimum continuing education requirements prescribed by the Structural Engineering Certification Board.  The firm's vast technical library is continually updated.  The firm is affiliated with over ten professional and technical organizations and is represented on the boards and committees of many of these organizations, including the Structural Engineers Coalition of Connecticut, The Structures Technical Group of Connecticut Society of Civil Engineers, and Connecticut Building Congress.

By combining this technological edge with the firm's experience, responsive service and commitment to excellence, DiBlasi Associates is consistently able to provide innovative and practical solutions to complex structural engineering challenges.
